My name is Donnell Ricardo Gilchrist Jr. and I like my name. I enjoy being unique and my name is nothing short of that. My name was going to be Dionne Andre Gilchrist, named after my uncle and aunt but if you look far enough into the roots of Dionne it's from Dionysos, the Greek God of wine, vegetation, theatre, and madness. The name Dionne's popularity reached it's peak at the year 1970 but has been going down since then. This is most likely how my aunt was named Dionne since she was born around that year. ( The video below will give more information on the Greek God Dionysos.)
My name was planned to be Dionne Andre Gilchrist through my mother's entire pregnancy with me,but once I was finally born and the nurse asked what would be my name my father step in and shouted "Donnell Ricardo Gilchrist Jr!" My confused mother broke the awkward moment with laughter. My fahter and my mother both agreed that Donnell was better than Dionne. But since I was a junior and shared the same name as my dad, my family came up with the nickname DJ(Donnell Jr.). Donnell was never truly a popular name and its orgins are still unknown in my family. My grandfather says the it was my grandmother who named my father and she unfortunately doesn't remember why she did. But my last name Gilchrist is from the gaelic phrase "giolla Chriost" which translates to "servant of God". The roots of the last name Gilchrist is Scottish. Even though I could not trace far enough back to see if my family changed it's name to Gilchrist it seems unlikely. But whatever the cause or reason behind it, that is how I scored the awesome name Donnell Ricardo Gilchrist Jr.
